Ingredients
- 2 teaspoons almond, cashew, or peanut butter
- 3 ounces vodka
- 2 ounces dark crème de cacao or chocolate liqueur
- 1 ounce dark amaro, such as Cynar, Fernet, Braulio, Averna, or dell'Etna
- 1 ounce Irish cream
- 4 dashes chocolate bitters
- Roughly cracked or small ice cubes
- ½ teaspoon cocoa powder
Equipment
- 2 cocktail glasses
Instructions
- Spread 1 teaspoon of almond butter around the top inner edge of two cocktail glasses with the back of a spoon. Set aside.
- In a cocktail shaker, combine the vodka, dark crème de cacao, amaro, Irish cream, and bitters. Fill the shaker halfway with ice. Cover and shake until well chilled, about 30 seconds. Strain and divide the mixture evenly between the two glasses. Dust each cocktail with cocoa powder and serve at once.
Cook's Notes
Despite what its name suggests, crème de cacao doesn't contain milk or cream. The use of the term crème here refers to the sugar content of the spirit. Confusingly, there are many chocolate liqueurs that are creamy. Try to avoid using those here, and instead opt for a dark chocolate liqueur. If you have only a creamy chocolate spirit on hand, omit the Irish cream and increase the amount of amaro to 2 ounces.
