Ingredients
- 8 blackberries
- 8 ounces lemonade
- Roughly cracked or small ice cubes
- ½ ounce grenadine
- 3 drops black food coloring
- 1 ounce coconut cream liqueur
- 4 ounces tequila
- 4 blackberries, for garnish
Equipment
- 2 Highball or Collins glasses
Instructions
- Place the blackberries in a mixing glass or 2-cup measuring cup and use a muddler to break them down completely. Add the lemonade and stir to combine. Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer set over another mixing glass to remove the solids and set aside.
- Fill two highball glasses three-quarters of the way full with ice. In a small cup, stir together the grenadine and black food coloring. Divide the mixture evenly between the two glasses. Slowly pour half of the coconut cream liqueur in each glass, being careful to keep the layers separate. Slowly pour half the blackberry lemonade into each glass to create a third layer. Top each cocktail with 2 ounces of tequila and garnish with 2 blackberries. Serve at once.
Cook's Notes
Creating distinct layers in a cocktail is all dependent on the density of liquids being used to craft the drink. Syrups and liqueurs with a high sugar content will sink to the bottom of the glass, while pure, higher-alcohol spirits float easily on top.
